!RELATIONSHIP: "Little is known how he fits into either of the Whipple lines, since John is a very common name used in both the Whipple families. It is believed that this John Whipple might have been from the Captain John Whipple lineage, which came from Providence, Rhode Island." --D.V. Norris.
!SOURCE: Email from Michael Whipple (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 10 Dec 2005. Identifies Benjamin Franklin Whipple's father as Isaac P. Whipple, noting the following:
I would like to share with you some information on Benjamin Franklin Whipple's (32502) possible father. I could not find any connection to a John Whipple from Masonville, Delaware County, New York. What I did find was an Isaac P. Whipple (1820 & 1830 Census Masonville, Delaware, New York.) Below are the pieces I've been able to put together. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. [Included are] my calculations on ages. There were two separate Court House fires, in Henry County, Ohio, which destroyed most records. The loss of records in the fires are the cause for the below listed Legal Notice.I've located a will, Elnathan Scofield, which mentions his daughter "Aby Whipple." Also mentioned was Jared Scofield (Aby's brother) as being Isaac P.'s brother in law. In addition I found "Mary Whipple" as one of the 1st School Teacher's in Flatrock Township.
I guess the above could be a coincidence, but it sure matches up.This note found in Henry County records.
Notice
To Franklin B. Whipple, James F. Borden, Mary Borden and Sarah Ann Smith. You will take notice that on the 15th day of March A.D. 1848 at the office of the clerk of the court of common pleas in Napoleon Henry County Ohio ... we will take depositions ...to perpetuate the remembrance of certain proceedings of a suit once pending ... wherein John T. Brazee was complainant and the above named with John Smith were defendants the object of which said suit was to foreclose a certain mortgage executed by one Isaac P. Whipple.I found Sarah Ann husbands name mentioned in previous notices. Also found one that speaks of his death.
Gravestone of Isaac P. Whipple |
